FAQ - Movie Film-To-DVD

What type of film do you convert?
We transfer 8mm, super 8mm and super 8mm sound film
Do you add menus and chapters to the DVD?
Yes, we typically make your chapters 10 to 15 minutes. If you chose a custom transfer, chapters can be inserted per your instructions.
How many film reels will fit on a DVD?
A DVD will hold 2 hours or less of your movies. For minimum compression, we sometimes recommend transferring only 90 minutes of content to one DVD. Most 8mm film was sold and processed on 3-inch reels, however, it was common to splice film together and put them on larger reels. Please separate your film reels in the sequence you want them recorded..
Do you clean the film?
We use a cleaner that is specially formulated to remove dust and mildew which also lubricates your film to help prevent it from cracking during the transfer process. It also helps to preserve film during storage, extending its shelf life.
Do you color correct?
As your movie film ages, over time the dyes in the film will begin to fade away leaving your movie film discolored. We take the extra step with all our film transfers and apply color correction
Do you edit the film?
We remove obvious blank areas of the film or exposures that are unviewable.

Movies are not destroyed or damaged in the process. They are returned to you with your order. You should store them away in a secure, cool dry place as a possible back up in the future.

What videotapes do you convert?
Almost all VCR and camcorder tapes including vhs, svhs, minidv, digital 8, 8mm video and hi 8 video.
How do I calculate the number of tapes that can be Combined?
Sometimes we receive videotapes that have a short amount of video recorded on it. For example, if we receive three videotapes, one of which only has 10 minutes, you can consider adding it to one of the other videotapes on one DVD. The combined tapes will be charged at 50% less than the other two. Please remember that we can not put any more than 120 minutes on a DVD.
Should I always combine videotapes on one DVD?
We can combine as many videotapes as you like, as long as their total length is no longer than 120 minutes. For digital 8 or miniDV, we recommend only transferring up to 60 to 90 minutes of content on to one DVD to maintain the higher quality of these sources.
What if I have more than 120 minutes on one videotape?
If a videotape is longer than 120 minutes, we will treat it as another tape.

FAQ-Project Source Files Archive

Should I order your Source Files Archive option?
Most projects are delivered as DVD movies. Please order extra DVDs for friends, family members or for a back-up. Sometimes our clients want the source files that we used to create your DVDs. Our source files are large uncompressed video files that can be used to edit and create new DVD movies. For example, you may want to send a new edited movie to a relative without your summer vacation. You must have video editing software on your computer to create new movies.
What type of archive hardware do you use?
If you order this option, you will get an external USB NTFS drive. Most likely it will be much larger than needed to store your source files.
What files are transfered to the USB drive?
We will transfer all of the uncompressed source (avi files) and DVD (mpeg files) to a USB drive.
Can I use this external drive with my Apple Mac?
Yes, you can perform the data transfer with most newer Macs. However, your Mac doesn't write to an NTFS formatted drive.
